Aha - major game titles are still coming to Symbian, it seems. Regular readers will know that I was a huge fan of 10tons's orb-throwing masterpiece, Sparkle, a game which made its way out from Symbian to other mobile platforms. Well, there's now a successor, 'Sparkle 2', released on Symbian more or less concurrently with the iOS version. What's new? Well, there are special keys to find across a wider variety of levels - think of this more as Sparkle+ on steroids. I'll have a full review up in a week or two, but in the meantime there are details of this very welcome sequel below.
From the sequel's description in the Nokia Store:
- More than 90 levels
- Breathtaking powerups and effects
- Amazing locations to discover
- Cinematic soundtrack by Jonathan Geer
So essentially it's more of the same, but when the 'same' is top notch then I'm not complaining. Sparkle 2 is four times the size of the original, at over 70MB, so expect a game title that matches the best of iOS and Android, yet on Symbian.
To give you an idea of the gameplay and graphics, here's the official trailer:
So the maps are now rendered in 3D and we have animated cut-scenes, plus extra gameplay tweaks and levels. And full stereo sound, so I'm guessing that playing with a headset plugged in would be a very good move.
You can buy Sparkle 2 for £3 in the Nokia Store. Or, if you're not sure, then grab the original Sparkle, which is on sale at £1.50. Both come recommended, and watch AAS for a full review in due course.
PS. Note that this has been added to my Curated Symbian Game Store. If you think that Symbian's no good for gaming then think again!
